Taken from my back garden hide, he was fluffing his feathers up, it was quite chilly, about 2 deg Celsius.

Perfecto Jon, wonderful details, HA, and that perch. I wouldn't sit down if i were that Robin!
Your robin's are way cooler looking than the american ones. Everything looks great. The only thing i could think is too have the bird higher and a little to the left.
I can't add much, I really like the European Robins, more attractive than our variety..
Nice perch if this is a set-up, and nice details.

Beautifully lit and fantastic details. Background and perch is awesome too. He has a double catchlight.
Well done.
Hi Jon, you have nailed the overall DOF in this. You have also captured and brought out the finer plumage detail so well - sharp too. Good angled pose, colours look good, as does your garden OOF BG.
I could do with some of your 2 deg C temps at the moment. We are experiencing high 35 -37 deg C at the moment with no let up.
Thanks very much everyone, glad you liked our robin, it is usually regarded as the UK favourite bird, they are usually very tame and many people hand feed them in their gardens.
Stu it must be ****!!...... Wish I was there. We are definitely going to return to Kruger, it was just perfect!
I like everything here, perhc, BG pose , sharp details. very nice! One suggestion for the setup images where the BG is brighter than the subject is use a bit of fill flash to make him pop more...you will be amazed at the difference.

Stunning portrait John! Robins are among my favourite subjects to photograph here in Sweden. The perch in your frame is superb, same with the details and the BG. I would also try to fit the end of the perch with the bottom left corner, as suggested by John. Arash also makes a good point about fill flash!
Thanks very much everyone glad you liked it. Arash I did in try some fill in flash some time ago, I had a problem in that my flash gun kept going to sleep and the cheap remote mickey mouse flash flash controls didn't wake it up. I have an old 550 gun somewhere that one doesn't go to sleep so I think therein lies the answer. The light at this time of year in the back garden is pretty dire so I will definitely have another go.
Very, very loverly. Great bird, perch, BKGR, and image.
with love, artie

Excellent image Jon! I like the pose, IQ, details, BG, composition and the interesting perch really adds to the image.
