Thats a cracker Glen ! Nice hint of something in the BG too. A grand picture with great light.

Nice pose and good IQ, Glen. I vertical crop would work better as I find the space is too much on the left.

Glenn:
I agree, the side lighting has given the bird a nice sense of form and detail.
My first compositional thought was the same as Karl, a vertical, based on pose and perch.

Glen your OP fits the bill perfectly for me, excellent piece of work.

Both version s are very nice shots, but I margianlly prefer the original because the additional space takes it beyond simple portrait.

I like the pose, perch, sharpness, sweet BG and how the one talon tip touches the perch. I am not a fan of squarish comps but I think it would work well here. Excellent image Glenn.

Glenn:
The repost is too tight for me, but I think with a little more room on the left, it would work well. Agree with Jim, generally don't love squarish crops, but the strong diagonal lines should help it work well.

Thanks for your input. The reason I selected the original composition was to compliment the direction of the birds stare which may have been. a little to excessive. I have cropped it in a 4 by 5 ratio which seems to give it more room on the left than the original 4 by 6 ratio a square crop looks good as well.

Nice lighting, sharpness and detail. Fun to experiment with composition. I am leaning toward a looser vertical...let us know what you decide!

A lovely Kestrel shot, no matter how you cut it. This a case where the side lighting works nicely, with the bird cooperative enough to turn toward the light. And of course, great techs and background. Tough call on the crop: I'd like either the OP with a bit taken off the left, or the vertical with a bit more room around. Great either way.

I like them both Glen, A little more room on the left though for the second one, Background, pose and IQ all look good. Well done.

Nice look a our girl Glen. I like the side lighting and the look back pose. The BG looks awesome. I would take off a bit on the left of the OP and call it done. She is looking that way.
