    Default Whiskered Tern

I took my new baby (not my REAL baby, but my recently acquired 300mm f2.8 L IS USM) for a spin today at a nature reserve close to my parents' home. I also tested a well-looked-after 1.4x TC-II, which I subsequently bought.

Can't wait to use this combination on my upcoming safaris to the Okavango Delta.

This was my first close-up sighting of a whiskered tern, This juvenile was taunting the photographers in the hide time and again, and this time I was able to snap it as it lunged down onto the water plants. The light direction was less than ideal and the sun battled all morning to shake off some cloud cover.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 300mm f2.8 L IS USM + 1.4x TC-II
    f4.0 @ 1/8000 SS @ ISO-1600
I kept my camera on Av+ISO-1600 due to the nature of the weather, so for moments when the sun peaked through the clouds I had extremely fast shutter speeds such as this one.
