Great detail, color, BG and love the open beak! I can't decide about the crop though. Almost feel like I want to see a bit more room on the left, but I am honestly going back and forth about it. Not a deal breaker at all either way it's a great image.

Hi Paul, really nice image. Beautiful colors, excellent feather detail, pure background. This image show how good the combination of the D500 and the 500mm PF work together. I noted you comment regarding the perch, here a thought. If you captured the image as a horizontal/landscape you could go to a 2x3 crop out some of the perch and show more of the wonderful background. Lovely image, thank you for sharing.

Awesome image, Paul. Love everything about it, especially the close crop to show the amazing feather detail. Loving the eye contact. One thought - the image looks a bit flat. I think you could bump the exposure and colors a bit to make it crack a bit more. Super easy fixes if you chose to do it.
Paul, love the close up and intimate feel here of what I gather is a very small species. How close?
Awesome pose too. The sweet color striations in the bkg really help an otherwise more plain female. Maybe you could add a touch of selective sharpening around the eye if you want. Check it out and see.
I think you chose the right composition here. To remove more below would make it probably too boxy.

I like the two backdrop Paul, nice and sharp, open bill cool, but would drop the exposure on the 'perch' and not apply any sharpening, keep it to the subject. The perch is a bit crappy with the white flaky bits, would crop about a quarter off the foot.
