    Dear Friends,

Just a bit of information about the African Buffalo before I upload an image taken last Sunday afternoon: this is a gregarious species and may form large herds consisting of a number of stable sub-herds. The sub-herds consist of a a number of related cows with their young as well as some adult and subadult bulls. There is a dominance hierarchy among males which relates to reproductive priority within the herd, but no sexual rivalry exists as such - a safe survival strategy for those animals that have the potential of killing each other in a dispute. Very old non-breeding males - often referred to as 'dagga boys' - prefer to form separate groups.

The image I am sharing was taken late afternoon in sweet light. At some stage we were surrounded by Buffalo, they are inquisitive and like to come close to the game viewer. We did not notice this cow until her face showed through the bushes...She stared at us for a little while and then probably realised there was no threat...so she went about her business...I liked the way the vegetation surrounded her face and that unconcerned look, she must have realised we were't going go to cause any trouble

    Nikon 500mm F4
    ISO 3200
    F6.3
    0EV
    1/800s

Perhaps not the most exciting frame but I am trying to share images of various species as well as add bits of information about them and their behaviour. I thank you for viewing and for your kind comments, suggestions and RP's on my previous posts.

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
