One of my winter duck season goals. Taken today, I am running out of time as they
don't stay much longer.
I liked this one, this lake has tricky BG, I have been taking my Merganser photos there
and this is where the Shovelers are so it is what it is...

Dan: Agree with Mike in all regards. A little reduced brightness of the BG would help. The whites on the shoulder perhaps could be brought down just a bit as well. I am getting around 235 for most of them, and it would be nice if there was a bit more detail there.
Cheers
Randy
PS: I tinkered a bit by using a luminosity mask for the brightest areas of the original, then used a multiply blend layer using that mask, to tone the background a bit. Just an option.

I agree with Mike and Randy. I'd also tone down the blue in the white areas of the far wing. The drop of water on the feet is lovely and the wing position's is ideal. Really nice, Dan.
Hi Dan, yes, our shovelers are a bit different with regards to the colours, but I'm sure your are fast flyers too. Good sharp detail all round, and I like the fully extended raised wings. Randy's work on the BG looks good. Well captured.
Great freeze! This affords a great views of all this bird's best features. Repost with dropped whites looks better, and I agree about the knocking down the blue on the far wing. Background is decent, and I'd give the bird more space if you have it. I love being able to see the orange feet!
This is a lovely frame and I have little to add to the previous comments.
Love the repost with the BG toned down.
I seem to be the only one that is not a fan of the dribbly water drop. It looks odd to me.
