Hope you forgive me for my absence lately, I have been scarce but such is the case this time of the year because I work long hours. Been missing you guys and BPN Wildlife So here's something to bring a smile on your face. Hopefully:)
Image was taken in October in the Shigwedzi area of the Kruger Park, a place Morkel is very familiar with The Park looked as arid as the Kalahari desert and we were amazed to see the animals were actually in great shape. River beds were dry, just a little water here and there. Happy to say heavy rain (and hail too) came one night before our departure. Our tents were flooded and we had some work to do the next morning, the cleaning up and packing operation took us five hours! But my companion and I were delighted to see the rivers flow when we left the park, we also witnessed a herd of about seven hundred or so buffalo heading towards the water...
Those three characters in the frame were part of a small herd. They all came to the river to quench their thirst and have a bath but the little one stayed away, I guess he was afraid of the deeper water. He eventually found this little hole in the ground - probably dug by an adult ele - and settled in it. It was great fun to watch his antics, and especially the way he swung his trunk all over the place - seems he did not know what to do with it Not a great image as the light was quite harsh but I just want to share, hope you enjoy the scene. Techs as follows:
Nikon D5
Nikon 500mm F4
ISO 1000
F7.1
1/1600s
PS I could have cropped tighter from the bottom but decided against it because I liked the little bit of vegetation...
Hope you all have a great rest of the week, and thank you so much for taking the time to view - much appreciated!
Hi Gabriela -- Nice to see you posting after a while.
I liked the moment , especially the expression on little ele. What is it trying to do ?
You have got some nice textures on the elephants , inspite of the light you mentioned. Also nice choice of framing as it showcases the surroundings nicely. These are very special creatures and always fun to observe their behaviour .
Nicely done. And looking forward to see more postings from you.
Hi Gabriela, this one surely made me smile. I like the little elephant on the ground pointing its trunk and the the framing is nice. Good light and solid techs. TFS.
Awww what a lovely scene. This is an eye catcher and very pleasing to the eye. The BG and FG colours show the subjects real good. The facial expressions on all three are priceless. Very well captured Gabriela and thanks for sharing this.
Lovely image Gabriela, I like the composition as is and I think the timing is good too. I think you handled the lighting rather well. The only think I could suggest is to consider adding some Dehaze - selectively to the water, I think it will also help with the hammerkop reflection too.
The little one was ok, just having fun, making cute noises and his trunk was all over the place I have more images of him just did not want to bore you with similar frames. Will share more at some stage:)
