Great capture William. Nothing I would change here. Head angle is spot on, nice background isolating the subject, super sharp where it needs to be, awesome!
Another great grouse shot. I love the overall color scheme and the bird looks great. I love the bit of white on the feet showing. If you have a bit more room below that would help, but no problem if not. TFS
Hey Will - It's amazing how well those blend in with their surroundings. I would think the orange above the eyes would be the only way to find them in the field. I like the bg and the foreground in this one (it shows what their trying to hide in). Nice and sharp on the eye.
Thanks for that guys, much appreciated. The Grouse is standing in purple heather. This is what they hide in, nest in, and spend most of their time in. They even eat the buds. The biggest challenge I have is getting one out in the open, showing off those fantastic white legs and large feet. I have had a few, but, would like to get 'the one'. And, yes, the red wattles are the first thing you see, when they pop their head out from the heather. Luckily for me, the Glen, where I photograph them, is close by, and great BG material. The road was closed last week because of snow drifts, now that would have been fun photographing them in the snow... Great fun.
You are killing it with these guys William. Wow! What a great bird that is just rocking in that purple heather. I love this one. Details and colors are great. Perfect background. I would try to brighten this up just a touch and see if it makes any improvements.
Thanks for that Isaac. Are you seeing any posterisation. I am seeing a little just to the left of the birds bill. Glenn Pure gave a very informative reply, to a question I posted on Digital Photography Workflow page, concerning this subject..
Yes I see some William, especially in the top left corner. But I am not commenting on it anymore by choice. I would almost guarantee that this issue is not there on the full res file and only on your downsized jpeg right? If so, I think it is partially from compression and probably from changing color spaces as well.
This a really wonderful, a beautiful look at a stunning bird. The foliage is super cool and the birds eye combs pop perfectly. Yeah more room around him
would be nice, but you'd probably given it to use had you had it. Great image regardless.
Hi Will, great pose and HA, and you have nailed the exposure on the darks. The colours and feather detail all look good too. More room at the bottom wouldnt have harmed the image.
