Hi Celeste, welcome to the forum. What an awesome duck, wish we had them here.
A few pointers I can give is that your image is over exposed, the whites are blown out and you lost a lot of color in the water.
That could be corrected either with a higher shutter speed or lower ISO, always get lower "if" possible, since you were shooting from a jetty that can't be helped.
Image looks sharp and you have enough room in front of the bird.

Hello Tim,
I actually bumped the exposure +.45 before posting this because it looked dark on my monitor which I had just calibrated with the colormunki. I generally work with the brightness just under 50% on the iMac 5K...could this be a problem?

Not sure if this is okay, but I'm including the original version, which, when I view the on the calibrated monitor at 100% brightness, seems okay. There's a lot to work out here!
Even on this the whites are over exposed…
The reds show over and the blues under I hope this helps.
