Nice in-depth review Arash, well worth the read...and the viewing of the images.

Hi Arash, agree with Dan, an excellent read and some of the images are truly outstanding, perhaps an updated PDF is require now from you for BIF and shooting with the new update/settings???
Interesting your thoughts about c/fast card & two slots, my question if you remember for which you kindly fwd Chucks reply. However, I totally agree with you and the initial cost for the hardware would have been minimal and perhaps more 'future proof', although across the pond, c/fast cards are mega $$$.
Personally, I did find shooting both MKI & MKII on a recent trip to Botswana (almost simultaneously, constantly swopping kit at times) a little frustrating because if the EV was set on zero with the MK1, I might be then going +0.33 or even +0.67 with the MK2 under the same conditions. Situation is now resolved, the other MK1 has gone .
Thanks for doing this and sharing it Arash.

you may want too buy more of those CFAST cards before GBP becomes lower!
LOL Arash, the way things have panned out over the last four days over here, I doubt anyone is in a position to make large purchases, however I understand Canon have just added a 10% price hike here, although I'm not sure if it has been implemented yet??
As you only have one c/fast slot per camera that's fine at present, as I cannot see me filling two 1DX MK2's in a day, plus I do have a spare c/fast card in the wings, if required .

I hesitate to respond in such august company. But what the heck. I found the review not only valuable, but written with an easy style that covers pluses and minuses in a believable manner. But. Even if the review weren't as valuable as it is, the catalog of falcon photographs made the visit a constant joy. Thank you.

As always, thanks for the great review.

Arash, thank you for the review. It's very informative and your peregrine falcon images are just simply amazing. I spent one afternoon at the location and know how hard it is just to get one sharp frame. My BIF skills are bad, so it will be awhile before I can recognize the improvements of the 1DX II AF capabilities. But for me, the ability to focus with 61 points at F8 is huge as I often use the 2X. Also the color rendition of the 1DX II at sunrise where there is a lot of Red is blowing the 1DX away with the AWB setting. These two are worth the upgrade while I'm improving my BIF skills. Loi

Mid to late July I heard, for the announcement Arash for the Firmware update.
-
Wildlife Moderator
Arash, are you aware of a Firmware update for cameras having 1.0.0 Firmware - released 7.1.2016? No need for cameras with 1.0.2. it appears.
Changes:
Firmware Version 1.0.2 incorporates the following functional improvements and fixes.
1. Incorporates countermeasures for a phenomenon in which the bottom part of still images recorded to SanDisk CFast cards become corrupted.
2. Enhances communication reliability between the camera and CFast cards.
If you are using the affected CFast cards, after having updated the camera firmware to Firmware Version 1.0.2, please make sure to use the camera to format the CFast card.
The Version 1.0.2 firmware being released at this time is for cameras with Firmware Version 1.0.0. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.2, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
When updating the firmware of your camera, please first go over the instructions thoroughly before you download the firmware.
The firmware update takes approximately six minutes.

yes I installed it already last week

OK Arash, both bodies are with Canon at present, so they can update things. From what I've seen/read it really is a rarity, however best to upgrade if need be.
Cheers.

sandisk will update their CFAST 2.0 cards, the new cards will be faster and don't have the slow down problem (not to be confused with image corruption).

So Arash, was the 'kit offer' with the new 1DX MKII a way of off loading old cards I wonder???
-
Super Moderator
unfortunately Canon made a mistake to ship those cards with the camera. I don't know whose call it was

Well, no worries Arash, I think the issue is a small one and only a few cards were affected and hopefully the Firmware has resolved any future issues. However, it does seem rather ironic that Sandisk release an even faster card only a few months out, after the 1DX MKII launch. I wonder just how well this news will be received????

Steve the firmware is not going to solve the "slowing" issue.

Thank you very much also from me for your excellent review of the 1DX Mark II.
I have at least two more questions left:
1. You wrote, that sandisk will change the CFast cards ?
i have got an "old" one (got it on July 1.) , did you have a link where a can see that possibility/offer from sandisk ??
I have only found this:
https://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Perso..._source=Eloqua
2. Your outstanding example pictures with the 1dx II and the 600/4 and 400/4 are wonderfull, but i can`t find informations about the specific AF Points you have used to get the pictures ?
thx

Hi Eric,
The new cards have not been released to the public yet, please contact SanDisk authorized dealer in your county after a month and ask for your cards to be replaced with the ones
I always used center plus expansion (4 or 8). The number of expansion points depends on the subject. Please see my AF guide for detailed info on that

Hello Arash,
thank you for your quick respond.
center point with 4 and 8 expanded are also my favourite settings, even at the 1dx2.
for the exchange of the sandisk cards i have now a new link (german, but language can be set):
http://kb-de.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19576
you have to write them an email and then it will be going on ;)

Hello Arash Hazeghi,
Thanks for the informative field test and impressive images/BIF.
At approximately what distances where the different bird photo's shot with the 400 and 600mm (1.4 and 2 converter)?
With kind regards,
Jack

Hi Jack,
Every image is different I can't give a number but usually birds are between 15 to 35 yards
