Just back from my 5th visit to Africa and my 3rd to Botswana. Spent one day with friend and expert photog Albert Froneman of wildlifephotography.co.za
I did a workshop with Albert 3 years ago and it was excellent. A great guy and teacher.
Eagle was baited with fish. Image taken from a boat at Xaro Lodge in the Okavengo Delta.
PP : 90 % FF, usual sliders in LR4 then to CS5 for NR to BG and I burned a bright area in the BG above the eagle, levels, DE at 6 % to eagle and USM to JPEG.
Comments and critiques always learned from and appreciated with thanks,
Gail
Hi Gail, great wing display from the FE, and overall tack sharp. I like the trailing droplets from the catch, and the low angle from the boat has turned out very well.
Terrific composition, action, wing position and overall sharpness. Although I'd like to see the whites on the eagle less bright and perhaps better defined, this is very nice as is.
Great action here. I love the flow from the upturned wing feathers, up towards the white head, down the back and into the dramatic arch of spraying water! Nice inclusion of the habitat with soft muted colors.
Quite the splashing action! I love the curled primaries. Nice sense of habitat in the BG. I may trim a bit off the bottom for a more pano comp. Pretty cool overall.
Hi Gail, great capture, nice light and colors. Love the action. Ideally I'd prefer to see more of the bird's body, so may be you have it on the next few frames.. For close in work, the 1DX + 70-200 and 1.4X is an excellent choice. I think in this case you may be a tad far away and the eagle is a bit small in the frame. Crop tighter could work well here. Loi
RP has improved an already good image. Great dynamic pose and that water trail is amazing. Sharp on the subject and good work with the whites on this RP
Hi Gail, I'm so jealous of your beautiful frame, and the fact that you've been to Africa 4 times now.
Can't wait to get there myself and I would like to plan a trip in the next couple of years. I might PM you to get your thoughts on locations and shooting opportunities if that's okay.
The frame looks awesome with a beautiful water trail in a killer wing position. Techs looks solid as always. The re post looks great. We'll done.
Come join me for a Custom Raptor Workshop starting this November 2019- January 2020.
P.M. me to inquire on dates, pricing and availabilities. Thank You. www.davidsalemphotography.com
Let me join the bandwagon on this one. Just wonderful, Gail. One of my favorite birds. Little things like the curved-up wingtips and water droplets make it for me especially.
Really nice image. I've tried quite a few fish eagle shots before so I know how difficult it can be to get results like this. Can't think of many ways to improve this, agree that a slighter tighter crop may be the only improvement. Great shot.
