I was a rather happy camper when this Bobolink decided to perch on something natural rather than on a farm post or barbed-wire (or grounded behind too-tall grasses). Approached from my car as slow as can be while praying that it would stay...it did, for more than a minute!
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/500s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, FF, eye work, toned down the bright back of the head via burning, as well as used the sponge tool to bring out the yellows on it.
This is a sweet frame.
Lots of details in the blacks and whites.
Nice delicate perch and a great BG.
I like the comp you chose but could see a version with a sliver off LHS.
Great look at the toes and I love the slightly hunched pose with a great HA.
Could the yellow on the crown be a bit more saturated?
Gail
What a great perch, and head turn. I've never been able to get close to these guys in breeding plumage. As suggested by Gail, I can imagine a version with less of the empty space on the right. Otherwise a great frame!
Stayed there for a minute... with that look back... on that perch... against that BG... with that plumage... and you were just driving by... it waited for you to frame it up (FF) with great composition... Not to mention perfect manual EXP... Come on......... TFS
Looks great with a very nice perch, pose, and BG. I could see a version with more saturation as suggested, but also some more NR on the background. Super sweet frame, wish it was mine. TFS
Super-sweet on all counts. As expected. Did you need to do any clean-up on the perch at all? (No evidence :) )

Thanks Artie. Nothing done to the vegetation, I was just fortunate that nothing was really distracting or out of place, even those three "prongs" stopped short of touching the subject! I did contemplate removing the lowest cluster near bottom edge but opted to leave it in.
You've inspired me to go over to a local preserve, where I've seen them before, to look for these beauties, and can only hope they look as good as this one, Daniel. Great capture on a wonderful perch. Beautiful background.
