A nice portrait John - the guys over in the Avian section will surely like the head angle! Nice details where they matter most.
Looking at the techs it looks like conditions were dim, but I still think the shot is presented just a tad dark. I'd also consider framing it a little looser, particularly a little more negative space in front of the nose.
The BG falls away nicely with the hint of detail, but if it were mine I'd try and do something with the 2 branches coming out of the head.
All in all though a nice portrait

I like it John, the texture of the coat looks beautiful, details look good too, I guess you and moose were quite still for 1 /320 to be so good. A small lift in the dark 1/4 tones really makes her pop. The image is a slightly awkward shape I would suggest 3:4 or 4.

Hi John - A nice look at the elk and you have good detail in the head. I would crop from the bottom to have the elk coming out of the lrc. I also immediately noticed the two branches coming out of the head and would darken them further or darken the entire bg to make them less apparent.

This is really nice John, love the detail and colours are superb. Nice HA and pose is lovely (I like those ears pointing forward).
Agree with the comp/crop suggestions above. Regarding those branches in the BG, I have the same problem with some of my images from the Kruger Park trip. At times I manage to soften or darken them, other times I get annoyed and delete them. But this is such a lovely portrait, I think it is worth trying to conceal those branches further. I would do what Rachel suggested, darken the entire BG.
Lovely work, John. I really enjoyed viewing this, thank you so much for sharing.
Kind regards,
