Anemonefish
A simple Anemonefish shot with him peeping out of the host bubble anemone. Its always easier to shoot these away from the sea floor but this one was right on the sand, so quite a bit of backscatter removal was required.
Canon 1dx
100mm L macro
ISO 400
1/200th f29
twin strobes to get the colours back

Hi Mike, lovely striking colours on the Fish, and I like the angle looking into the frame.

Hi Mike - This has a great 3D feel and effect to it. I always think of Clownfish as having white stripes (blame Disney) so interesting to see how much blue there is in the stripes of this one. The underside of the fish seems a little hot, a curves adjustment to the red channel brings out a bit more detail there. Overall, another excellent underwater frame.

Rachel

Thanks for that Rachel, There are loads of different sub-species down there, and many variations on colourings.
Do you know of a good place to learn using channels - everywhere on the internet seems to give conflicting advice and I find it difficult to know who to listen to. I sometimes use them for luminosity masks but this about as far as I've ever got
cheers

All does sit in its right place for me!!!!
Agree with Rachel about the lovely 3D appearance ....caused by the nice depth in the anemone tentacles .
Well for me there is only one " God" ...
....about channels etc . Dan Margulis and his book " The modern Photoshop color workflow " ...... tough to read and understand if you are a starter . Just my 2 cents . This was my bible ..... meanwhile i am my "own God "
....
Hope this helps .... and is good to go through a book

Cheers Andreas - I'll start looking him up for the next stage I my never ending PP lessons

Mike - I believe Andreas and Steve use channels much more often and adeptly than I do so I will leave it to them to recommend some materials. Most of my usage has been trial and error based on comments and techniques that they made/recommended.

Cheers - the trial and experimentation is my current method, I could do with something a bit better! Thanks for getting back to me

Save time ....by reading that book ..and start from ground.

Always a pleasure to see another of your underwater frames, Mike. The colours in this are stunning, especially that electric blue on the fish. I did wonder before reading Rachel's post whether the red channel was a bit hot. So hope you are able to find some suitable material to help with that. But this is very striking, regardless.
