During my last stay in the U.S., I encountered this impressive supercell thunderstorm while driving late one evening from Bismarck to Mobridge.
The storm produced continuous lightning and when I found a good vantage point, I set up my tripod and started shooting.
I used ISO 100 to reduced noise and the aperture wide open which is important to catch distant lightning bolts.

Wow, very cool dynamic storm formation and light show, Christian! Nice natural colors, and light & dark levels work well to give the light glow strong impact. Like the texture to the clouds above and diagonal lines formed all make for great composition. Nice work! What was the shutter speed?
Brendan,
thanks alot for your comment. The shutter speed was 8 sec which is pretty slow since you need to freeze the cloud motion.
The lens was the EF 24-70 F/2.8 at 24 mm and not the EFS 10-22, as erroneously indicated.
This is really neat. While I wish that portions of the image weren't quite so dark, the darkness really emphasizes the brilliant bright parts, making them all the more spectacular. Very nice. And good work in determining the right camera settings to catch the action!
