Dan - nice light on the mountain and the water looks good. I think I would have stopped down a bit more to try to get more detail and dof in focus. Looking forward to more of your Rainier images.

Thanks, Rachel, as I explained in the other "Paintbrush" post, the West is dogged with smoky skies from large wild fires.
It is hard to get decent sky shots with long exposures due to the smoke, so I could either use high ISO or
larger apertures with shorter SS or get "gray" skies.
Unfortunate as the weather has been great, 80 degrees on Mt. Rainier this past weekend.
The mountain itself, should be a lot sharper in this photo, but the atmosphere is not great right now.

That sure is a pretty scene. I'm with Rachel on a little more DOF. With today's cameras image quality should not suffer at ISO 200 or even 400 depending on the camera.

With a nice composition, the foreground pretty, and the upper third on the blah side, why not HDR?

Arthur, I am looking into doing some HDR, but I don't really like a lot I see and am still
enough of an amateur that getting good "standard" photos is a challenge.

Hi Dan, I resisted HDR for a long time but in landscape situations with bland skies it is one of many choices for dealing with it. I do not do much landscape photography but will post an HDR from the Galapagos. I must, however, warn you that it has a bit of a grunge look

I very much like the FG and after making this image would have moved to concentrate on just the falls with the in-shadow grasses and flowers framing it.

Hi Dan, lovely cascade. Agree with Robert on working more on the waterfall and the shaded areas around it. Have you tried using grad filters to hold back the brightness of the snow clad mountain?
