Default Ice Flow on the Mississippi - reduex

I originally posted this on the Landscape Forum, where they helped thru Landscape 101. The result seemed to work a bit better than the OP, but I wanted to do an OOTB version. There is about 3 different layers of Simplify 3 at different opacity levels, and some Topaz Detail processing. I worked the sky seperate from the ice, until the end where I "electified" the entire image, again with Simplify 3.

The file was big. I had to do some major compression and lost a fair amount of sharpness in the process of posting. So, imagine the scene sharper than it appears........especially the ice.

I may have taken this a bit too far..................let me know what you think.

Jay, I love the colors and especially the way the sky turned out. I like the lighting on the top of the ice but I think that much ice kind of detracts from the view of the horizon and trees and sky. Maybe a little off of the bottom? But that's just MHO:)

    Cheryl,

Thanks...........I've been through three or four trimming versions on the ice........I'm still undecided:). I'll give it some more thought.

When I did the OOTB version the ice got brighter and the sky darker, so, I adjusted that for better balance and took a smidgen off the bottom. maybe that works better..............

Jay, I like the repost better - the ice doesn't overpower the image now.:)

I like the repost too. You could take a sliver more off if you wanted to but it looks good as is. Nice looking effect and I think that the colors and the mood are great!!:)

    Nice image and application, Jay.

Interesting effect. Like the repost of the two options.

Love the composition, Jay. The sky is wonderful! I like the version in Landscapes a lot too. I wish the highlights on this were brighter, more like the version in Landscapes.

Thanks again everyone............ I had some trouble visualizing this one, and the feedback really helped.

Christopher..........I'll take a swing at brighter highlights.

Hi Jay, I think I prefer the original post in the Landscape forum, but Topaz did bring out some really cool colors in the ice.

Beautiful colors. I like the effects on the sky and the ice. I would prefer two different images--one being the top part, the other focusing on the ice. As it is, I feel torn and can't fully appreciate either.
