I almost didn't post this one but then I thought "what the heck...". As an example of something different from a simple filter, this was done entirely with a curves adjustment layer. I will post a picture of the curve also. This extreme curves adjustment made serious halos around the bird and perch, so I tried to minimize those using the blur tool on the edges. Not sure it worked... You can also see "sparklies" on the perch and his legs, but like I said - it's an example. :D

That is wild! I need to play around with curves. The bottom area looks like flames. It would be cool to be able to reproduce that.

Kerry, It has a very 3 dimentional look to it. I like the perch and pose. The bottom does look like fiery embers, I'll bet you can use the liquid tool to make them look more like flames. Thanks for sharing the dialogue box.

I happy to see other folks using curve adjustment on their work and this looks fine to me...I love taking a photo and playing with it like this...it's about the only thing I know how to do with NX 2, but it is fun to play with.:)

Hi Kerry, I agree with Denise that this would have been a great shot for the 3-D theme. Having read your description, the title couldn't be more accurate :D. You've gone from abuse to torture, and the result is great. I just love stopping by to see what the folks here can come up with next, what an inspration to experiment. So many filters, so little time ;)

Kerry, that is one tortured curve:D And it really does look 3D.

That is a tortured curve! It does have a 3D look to it. Depending on your "vision" of the image, you might try using the Smudge tool on the bkg to blend the colors a bit. I use it often on backgrounds with "shapes" rather than identifiable items that result from using PB and/or Topaz. If you have CS5 you could try a mixer brush too. I haven't mastered that yet ;) and it takes some time but it works well once you get the hang of it.
