    Default GBH landing

I was at this small pond early one morning trying to shoot a couple of Green Herons that frequent the pond. I didn't get the Green Heron shot I wanted but I did get a surprise when this GBH decided to land in front of me. I had the 500mm + a 1.4 tc on and just got him in the full frame shot, I would like a little more room, but there wasn't any and I liked the pose:)

    Canon Mk 111 / Canon 500 f4 + 1.4 tc / 1/2000th @ f5.6 / ISO 400 / hand held / manual exposure

Nice pose indeed. I like the wing spread, but wish the eye stood out a bit more (my current fascination with eyes).

You could easily add some space all around if you really wanted to. The bottom would be the only semi tricky area because of the reflection.

I like the water splash and the flaring wing feathers which give the wings a three dimensional feel. I wonder what this would look like if the OOF BG were even more blurred / softened.
