    I realize that a bit of fill-light would have helped here, but this one took me by surprise when I was out shooting waders this morning. She flew in right next to me just beyond the MFD of the lens. I've never been able to catch one feeding on bugs before.

    Canon 7D
    Sigma 100-300mm f/4 @ 263mm
    1/1600sec @ f/13 ISO 800

    Hi Ian - Like the action - think some fill flash would of helped here - eye looks a little dead as presented - think I can see the barest glimmer of a catchlight there - might try lightening and sharpening to see if you can enhance it.
    Linda Robbins Hummingbird guide would be a good investment. :)

    With its sudden appearance about all you can do is tweaks in PS !!!

    Good for you to have the fast reaction.

    They love spiders around here and often see them with bits of webs hanging off of them. They also seems to return to the same areas for feeding.

    I like the pose.
