Taken on a nicely overcast day with my Nikon D300s. Here are the specs:
Nikkor 300 F4 w/1.7 TC = 500mm
f/8.0
1/250
ISO 200
Taken on my BRAND NEW Gitzo 3530LS (WOO HOOO!) + Jobu Jr. 2 Gimbal
If I had my druthers I'd have a smoother BG (it's a bit choppy, no?), but I'm happy with the sharpness (the Gitzo helped here!).
Thoughts?
Brian
PS I sized this photo in Photoshop Elements 4.0 (an old copy I almost forgot I had); it's 197 kb but still seems to show up on the smallish side, size wize. Not sure why . . .
hi Brian - sharpness looks good - just watch that shutter speed - 1/250th is a little slow at 500mm. Would have bumped that ISO to 400 or 800 to provide some safety margin. You could have also shot this wide open.
Exposure looks good - a little contrasty on my screen - could just be my screen.
A lower shooting angle if possible would have improved.
Looking forward to seeing more :)
I keep forgetting that my D300s can shoot pretty much noise-free up to 800, esp in good light. So yea, ISO 800 buys me two more stops to play with, right? If my math is right, I could have doubled the shutter speed and opened the lens up to 6.7 (as wide as the 300 F4 will go with a 1.7 TC).
Will keep 'em coming, hopefully improving as I go - thanks again!
:-)
Brian
