Just got back from a trip to Eastern Canada, not many birds up close, but this bird gave me a great look....

    Pretty specimen there.

A bit of work on the exposure during conversion would help. Then some Shadow Highlight to bring out even more details.

There is a really bad sharpening halo around the bird, most noticeable near the dark feathers. Selectively sharpening the bird just inside it's edges would eliminate that.

Nice specimen. I like the color, reflection, and background. I agree with the prior comments about sharpening and details - especially in the blacks. I would consider adding more room on the left, but that's just my personal taste.

Love the hairdo! Gotta laugh when I see these duckies around, the first punk rockers. Agree with the prior comments so far here. Also good to get as low as you can for shorebirds and ducks....not always possible though. Hope to see more!

I am not sure why it looks so oversharpened, but did notice the halo. I'll have to keep an eye on things like that...I am posting the same photo with no sharpening, a little more room to left, and no halo...the least bit of sharpening creates a halo..Thanks all

Did you use bicubic sharper when you downsized? That will introduce a halo as well. The halo is still visible in the repost.

No ...no sharpening at all..if you use sharpening inside camera would this cause the halo?

I'm not positive on that one. Logically, I'd say probably, but I don't do in camera sharpening so I can't say for sure.

Do you see the halo when you open the image? Is your RAW converter set to sharpen automatically?

I put arrows where I see the halos:
