The meadowlark is seen quite frequently as well as heard along Joe Overstreet and this image was taken this past week . It is always a privelge to see these little birds and we were fortunate to be able to observe this particular one for a few minutes as he stretched and preened.

This is beautiful. This pretty much has it all going for it......gorgeous light, wing stretch, detail, simplicity and a nice graduated BG. Even the post has character!! The profile certainly shows just how long that beak is. An ever picky nit is a slight halo around the beak and top.
Very pretty on all accounts. I like how you manged to show the length and shape of his beak. From all my trips to Overstreet watching meadowlarks I have never seen this behavior.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment. Lana I can see the slight halo and I know when using the S/H one must be ever so careful. Most of the time I just pray I will not have to use it < smile > Again thanks !
Hi Judy remember to select the bird and the halos will be a think of the past Sometimes is easy to select the bird others the bg and inverse Love the wing stretch Those guys were really performing for you !!! Hope you also brought back some fine bovines !!!! :):):)
The meadowlark is our state bird (KS) so of course we see them all the time; they nest and raise families in our pastures. Your image is one of the best photos I've seen of them - you did him proud, Judy!
you posted this before I ever even knew of BPN, so I don't feel too bad for missing it.
Some of the most stunning light I've ever seen and so glad I have seen it now.
