This image of a milkweed bug nymph on a seed pod was taken early in the morning in moderately low light. I waited over an hour for the wind to die down enough for photography.

Canon 180 mm f/4 macro lens and Canon EOS 20D; ISO 800; Av with evaluative metering =0; 1/60s at f8; Canon T24 twin flash at -1 2/3; Bogen tripod

A very colourful bug Keith, sharp where it counts and well worth the hour wait!! Interesting textured seed pod adds to the composition!!

    Hi Keith,

I really like to these guys they are Assasin bugs right? Great background and flash control. Great DOF, appears to much better than only F8, I think the 1.6 X factor helps with this ( I know a 1.6X crop factor doesnt itself add DOF but gives you more working distance and this factor enhances DOF characteristics).

    liked the colours.
but DOF seems insufficient to me...
f8 is never sufficient to get the bug sharp but then again as u mentioned, it was windy & u could not have helped it in anyways...

    TFS.

    rgds,
    Kaushik
