I shot this male Great Horned Owl at Honymoon Island State Park just before Christmas. He was being buzzed by a Red Shouldered Hawk thats why he looks aleart insted of sleeping. It was late morning with the sun creeping in behind him. Shot with Nikon D2Xs with 600mm lens at F8 and 1/45 sec. It may look a little busy but it's the first open shot of this bird I've had in 3 years.

    Welcome, John!

Great job getting him in the open. I would have tried to move a bit to take him off center.
If it were mine, I would add some vignetting at conversion to minimize the white sky around the bird.

    looking forward to more :)

Welcome to BPN, John. Great find and details. A bit too centered for my taste and there is only so much you can do about the BG.
