Scarlet Hibiscus

Here's one of my hibiscus photos I found in my files after seeing Dave's beautiful image. It took a while to get a good angle for the BG. It's just grass.

Canon EOS- 1D, EF 100- 400 mm. IS. My photo was taken at 800 ISO not sure of the exposure. Had to get in close to avoid numerous distractions in the plant and a good patch of grass.

Hi Charlie, You nailed it. Beautiful. Nice angle and rich colors..I only suggest you give more room top and bottom and don't clip the flower.

Thanks for the kind comments. Unfortunately, there were twigs and other items in the way. That's how it goes sometimes.

Charles, It's still a lovely shot-you could always crop in tighter so it doesn't look clipped. It will just look cropped. Jules just reposted one for Dave and she put it in a vertical. It looked great here's the link

Thanks for the help. I like Jules vertical version also. I don't like the clipped look in my photo either. Have been waiting to post it for a while because of it.

Background looks beautiful. Grass works well. (So does water.)

The clipping has been mentioned. Otherwise the flower looks absolutely perfect. Excellent color, perfectly saturated. Wonderful detail right down to the stamens. Very nice!!

Hey Charles,
Strong use of contrasting colors.....I've eyed a few crop ideas because of the clipped edges.....but can't seem to come up with one that doesn't sacrifice edge detail. Very close on this one and hope you get to re-visit them!

Well I see everyone beat me to it! The colors and crispness are nothing short of gorgeous (although I think you might have a little patch of oversaturation on the top petal. I would definitely think about cropping tighter since you've nicked the edges. I assume you already know how I feel about the sideways comp...I don't know why this bothers me in hibiscus - I generally like a sideways comp! Still, a beautifully exposed image, Charles.

Thanks for your comments. I prefer to shoot back more on my florals. I only came in close on this one to isolate contrasting colors and remove some photo chaos.

Roman I agree there's no way to correct this photo with cropping. Thanks for trying...

Hey Charles, agree with other on the clip, I would crop in the petals more, Excellent details, colors and light.
