Galen Rowell's delight with alpinlight was finally revealed to me when I was near his home town. He is missed. This was one of the most beautiful mornings I have experienced in the Alabama Hills area. I took many images that morning including a panoramic hanging in my living room at 17"x80".

Some may suggest that the image is too dark. But, I like it that way. It really feels like twilight and has a quiet, peaceful mood about it. Excellent work, Steve.

I agree that I like the image with just that bit of light. It has a feeling of stillness and intimacy.

The light Steve speaks of was a hallmark of many of Rowell's images. I think he did well here capturing that. The composition looks clean but I would have preferred to not see the bushes in the front cut. The border does not work for me.

Super image Steve. The darkness of the foreground is a beautiful contrast to the alpineglow on the mountains. Not too keen on the presentation border though - really detracts from an otherwise gorgeous image.
