    Default Osprey

Taken this afternoon. I was hoping to stay out a little later for better lighting but had to leave. She had a baby in the nest and wasn't very happy when she spotted me spotting her. Thanks for looking. All C/C welcome and appreciated.

Great comp, wings and connection to those staring eyes! The rimlight on the forewings and head seems a little too harsh and distracting, but I like it on the primaries and tail. Overall, excellent!

The eye contact is great, love how she has her head turned toward you. Beautiful backlighting and excellent detail.

Thank you all for the kind comments.
Keith, I'm not happy with the rim light on the top of the bird neither. The sun nor clouds were on my side today.

I like the pose, eye contact and composition. The sky has a slight magenta cast. Did you run NR on the bird, it looks a bit soft.

Super comp, and love the wingspread. Great backlight, and you have exposed good detail from the underwing. The eye contact takes this over the top for me.

Axel, I didn't run NR on this pic and think the softness is due to the aperture being wide open with my lens. Normally I'd be at AV 8 because it produces a sharper image but than my shutter speed would of been to low and I also don't like my ISO above 200 with the 20D unless I have no other option.

Maybe you could have gone to ISO 400 and stop down more.

    Brian,
great feather detail and nice exposure considering the bright backlight. The color in the sky almost looks like it has been added in after you took the picture.

Ilija, I live in New Bedford but took this pic in Mashpee on the Cape. All along the southern MA coast there are man made platforms that the Ospreys use for nesting. Populations are starting to boom because of the conservation efforts in the Cape and Westport, it gives people like us a lot more opportunities for capturing these guys.
