This is one of my absolutely favorite bird images and only wish I had a longer supertele so I didn't have to crop a lot.

I feel the title fits perfectly with the preening action. Though the bird is far from a "ghost" or phantom, like Monsieur Erik in Gaston Leroux's novel. It inspired me to write about The Phantom of the Opera.

I lie await, behind the stage for
    Christine's performance
To hear her voice, then call with mine
And make her fall in love
My love for her is endless
    My devotion is so real
    My heart is really aching
    From emotions that I feel

    Rejection is no option
    I cannot take a "No!"
I take her with me to my chambers
    Deep on, down below
Then we kiss, the magic lights
    The darkness in my room
I concede defeat and let her go
    To her anxiously awaiting groom

    Farewell, my love Christine
My face is not to love
    My disfigurement so unreal
    I can no longer bear
We may meet up once again
    High up in Paradise
My pain I end in torment
You just live your happy life...

Thanks Denise for your comment. :)

I learned about the story today and said "YEAH!" gotta do this! So I did. I think it is a wonderful story and I will eagerly seek out the book. (among other classics) And I now want to see the musical. I think it will put the Merry Widow to shame. :(

And the bonus is, that Iron Maiden have a great version of this story on their 1979 album (first album). It's a ripper of a track too.

Akos, I saw the musical in the theater in London, with falling chandelier and all. It gives you goose bumps.

Knowing the story, you have captured the pain and agony of the phantom and the impossibility of his love.

    Well done, amigo.

Excellent image and poetry to go with it! My one comment is the word "waiting" should be "awaiting"...love everything else about it!

This is what I call soul-plumbing, Akos.

Full of substance, loaded with feeling.

    Strong work.
