Recolata Cemetary
Another statue from Recoleta Cemetary in Buenos Aires. Most of them were huge and imposing, Some probably 20 feet high. As you can see I was looking up to take this shot. I found it a haunting place and hope one day I can go back to take some more photos. This statue was of a young girl Ruffina Cambaceres who died at 18 over a broken love affair. If you see the statue in its entirety she is standing on some steps, waiting to open the door to go to heaven. Only the wealthy are buried here, and if the family dies out, and cannot afford upkeep, they remove all the urns etc, and just put them in a general holding area. Some crypts are falling apart.
