This caterpillar and four of its friends invaded my flower garden last fall and devoured every leaf on this plant in one afternoon. When I looked later they were all gone without a trace. I have a suspicion that one of my resident Mockingbirds had them for dinner. D2x plus Sigma 105 macro plus Nikon PK13 extension ring. ISO 100; 1/60th @ f8 and I used a SB800 hand-held flash with diffuser (reduced output, but I don't remember the setting).

Appealing composition Dick with caterpillar placed on the diagonal and sharp where it counts. Nice macro capture!!
We also get this species down under.

    Dick,

This guy would be a hornworm.

Nice detail in the image. I like the composition. Was the image taken at night?

It looks like there is a little flash shadow on the caterpiller.

    Robert
