This ring-billed gull was nice enough to pose for me at the Salton Sea.

    50D, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS + 1.4x @ 280mm
Manual mode, f/5.6@1/400, evaluative metering ISO 200 AWB
AI Servo autofocus using back button, HH

Converted from RAW in DPP, then sized for web in CS4

really nice, kerry. only thing i see is if you could have gotten a little higher or lower to keep the darker blue line from intersecting the head. other than that, great job!

    This is great SOC,
only to get rid of the dark patch in BG and push the curves bit lighter
and you've got it. I like the yellows vs blues/grays contrast SOC very much.

I like your capture Kerry. The BG doesn't bother me that much. You have good details on the feathers and eye.

    Hi Kerry,
A very good capture indeed, I would now selective sharpen the eye, adjust the mid-tones slightly to lighten the overall image and clone out the blue oof band going across the gull's face...good show...

Good point Harold re intersecting the head! This is nice Kerry! would crop about a 1/3 off the bottom (perch is what I mean) clean the dark bits in the sand and the horizon line. A little s curve, some saturation and a bit more of an off center crop would really make this one pop. :) IOW, I would crop the left side space in half or so.

Nice SOC. BG doesn't bother me either, blue blob on the right??

Not much to fix this right up!

Hi Kerry - Nice SOC - well done, the less work that has to be done after the fact the better in my book!
