Hi Jeff - like the head angle and the pose - looks like the sun was not lined uo behind you, resulting in the shadowed area on the left hand side of the bird, in which the blacks are also close tobeing blocked.

I would try and lighten the dark area a bit - sharpen the eye and crop like this maybe.

Jeff, Good advice from Lance-Think the grass and BG colors add to a softer look! Not bad for SOC!!

Good sharpness Jeff. Agree with Lance about the sidelighting. Looks like the black are dark on the far side.
    Looking forward to more.

Hi Jeff For that subject I would try closing in a little more so you don't have to crop. Nothing wrong with cropping a little but you want as much bird as possible ... maybe 75 to 80 % unless you choose doing an environmental !!!

You also want to re compose to have the bird away form the center. Even if you are going to crop some do try to have the bird in the proper position. This motif is showing lots of things I like it !!!

    Hi Jeff,
I like the pose on your bird, the details are sharp and you have a good head and eye contact...it looks a wee bit small in frame...agree with Mr. Forns suggestions...looking forward to your next one...

Good pose and nice soft light. Agree with Alfred on getting closer and moving the bird away from the center.
