    Question Scarlet Ibis location(s)?

My Uncle (an extremely avid bird-watcher) is coming down from Ohio in a few weeks and has his sights set on finding a Scarlet Ibis - any suggestions on places to go?

Scarlet Ibis is a long shot... the only few "recent" reports are for "pink" Ibis (Scarlet and white hybrids).. Good source is http://tropicalaudubon.org ... "whatbird" mention vagrants sometimes on the summer time.

Good luck, but chances are not good.

So I've heard - I did give TA a try but all I came up with were 20+ year old sightings and/or 'pink' ibis reports. I appreciate your reply Raul - perhaps a captive one will have to do for my uncle. :)

As far as I know the Scarlet Ibis no longer exists in Florida as a wild, breeding population. I recall some old reports from Everglades, but I think they've all died out. I know I've seen them running around Seaworld up in Orlando, but you can't really count those on the official ABA or AOU bird lists. Your uncle is likely to find some great stuff on his Florida visit!

Well, if you are going to the Viera Wetlands, west of I95 X191, you could drop by the Brevard Zoo, just east of I95 X191. There are some there ;)

There is also a White X Scarlet (pink) that is supposed to be around Kelly Park on Merritt Island. Just south of SR 528 at the Banana River Road exit. This is on the south side of KSC off I95 at exit 205, then east toward the Port, Cape & AFS.
