I love the expression on his face. The yellow eyes combined with the other textures and colors on his head really make it the highlight of the image. The bill is acts as a leading line taking the viewer straight to the center of intrest. I would suggest a vertical crop to emphasize his face even more. I would also clone out the grass in the lower right.

Thanks Joel. Sorry, not sure how to put the correct accent marks over the e in your name. I have been following with interest your posts as you have been trying and using different backyard perches. Good for you.
I feel I have been too harsh on this birds head. I was looking for a much softer look, to match the feathers. They had been feeding in wet grass and drinking from a small pond so the wetness made my contrast too effective perhaps.
Thanks for the comments and advice, it is always helpful. Dave

The eyes and forehead are striking, Dave and really grab your attention. I also like the bits of sleet on the crane's back. I agree with Joel that a vertical crop to emphasize the head and neck would make a stronger image. Maybe back off a bit on the sharpening around the eyes.

Thanks for commenting Steve, I like the suggestion about the crop and also about the sharpening. Dave
