As part of my new perch setup, I added this log. In most of my photographs, the bird is perched on a horizontal or diagonal perch. I thought that a vertical post would add some variety to my images. The juncos and sparrows loved it.

Any ideas on how to crop this? I have some more room at the top and to the right in the original capture. I am wondering if he needs more headroom. Also, what do you think about the relative sizes of the bird and perch?

    Any input appreciated.

Details and exposure control look good. I wish for a bit more eye contact and there are artifacts in the BG, probably due to compression.

I like the exposure and background but the image looks too verticle to me. My suggestion for cropping is to crop the bottom of the log and try an aspect ratio of 1:1.
