This image was created from a boat on the Zambezi River in Namibia with the last rays of the sun before sunset. I went for 800 ISO to make sure I freeze the movement. The pink quality of the water is the reflection of the clouds at sunset. I decided to keep the yellow colour cast on the whites as I remember it being exactly like that, adding to the overall rich quality (at least I hope so:)). I would have preferred the bird to be angled more towards me rather than away from me. All comments welcomed.

Very interesting to see the differences between the African and American variety of this species. The light, action and wing position are great. Too bad the bird just passed you. Do you have some frames of it with the bird coming toward you?
Chris,
very nice Image. Black frame kind of worked out by arresting my attention in the frame but personally I felt its too strong and grabbing attention from subject, May be a slim one?
Love the lighting and action you captured Chris. Great timing. As Axel mentioned it would be nice to a caught it just before it got past you. Thanks for sharing !
Lovfely shot Chris - light, pose and action all great. The lines of the water ripples with warm light parallel the wake of the bird's beak whch I supect you may have lost earlier in the sequence
I'm not sure I understand the fixation with approaching shots vs departing--while I don't care for shots of birds butts, this is far from it. While I generally try to rotate in framing of skimmer shots to avoid 'uphill water', I like it compositionally in this shot.
