Please consider my comments as that of a novice trying to share my thoughts on the image more as a learning process than being in any way as that of an expert.
The image is a very interesting one, very nicely exposed and composed but appears more of an abstract image than a bird portrait. The shallow DOF at this closeness resulting in the OOF beak makes me a bit uncomfortable with the image. I do not know at which focal length you created the image and would it have been possible to create it with a shorter tele-lens?
Again these are my humble comments and may necessarily be the right one for the image.
Hi Gautam thanks for the comments They do make a lot of sense
The image was made with the 200-400 at 200 The camera used has a 1.5X factor sot the effective focal length is 300 Image was also made at minimum focusing distance Even I had chosen to use f 22 the dof would have been very limited In this I had in mind having the eyes perfectly sharp and all else out of focus
A little different !!! Always looking for different ways to make images of these guys !!! Appreciated you comment and looking forward to many more This is exactly what we are trying to do here and it is working Expressing opinions for feedback !!!!!
That is one interesting looking cormorant. Looks like and old timer! Great perspective. Perhaps it would have more imapct if the eyes were more open/alert but very nice as is.
The symetrical look of this picture is simply awesome !
How long had you been waiting, eye stick in the viewfinder, to get this shot ?
I always love that kind of capture.
Really well done, Alfred.
