I appreciate not the ideal angle but the wind direction meant that I would never get it so this is all I could get. Hopefully I'll be luckier next week. I cropped the image.

Hi Jon ... good luck for next week !!!!
I am quite flexible when it comes to HA and poses ... but this is not working for me .
Habitat is nice ... and the Owl does look quite good from sharpness/ detail POV . Nice colors as well ..... apart from the blues , the Barn Owl is for sure not colored in that way .
Jon ... why such drastic changes to the colors ?
The key " mistake" you made , IMHO , is that you have not analyzed the image with my thoughts in mind .
I do not mind the coolness in the OP in general , it is just the very obvious blue /cyan tones which are jumping into MY eyes in the subject . If you remove them selectively and warm up the brighter tones ..... you would have a different and more interesting image , well in my book .
You just made everything warm .... you added a cast
Cheers Andreas

There is a chance that the blue color is accurate as it might be the skin color just below the slightly splayed feathers. Like the green skin of young white herons and egrets ... Or not.
