Another one from the hide. The bird flew real close here, this is about 70% of the original. I thought the morning sun brought out some nice colours on both the bird and the BG. Gimbal Head. ACR Topaz DN and PS.

Another very nice shot. Lovely colours as you say.I don't get many of these really close shots but would you get the whole bird in focus at say f9 as you seemed to have plenty of iso in reserve? Not a criticism just a question. That 400 DO has done a great job for you

Super shot Will, great details and colours, for me DOF is fine, when I look at images like these my primary interest is the head.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Hi Ian, I change the exposure lots of times, depending on the light at the time. This was a windy day with clouds overhead. I wasn't expecting this bird to fly so close. As long as I can get the SS at 1/5000, as these small woodland birds are flighty. I was focused on another perched bird which was also close, hence the f/7.1, and caught the Greenfinch flying as it took off from a nearby perch. I guess I got lucky to get focus locked on. Yes, the 400 DO is the best lens I own. It is super sharp bare, and also really good even at 800mm with the 2x attached.

Hi Will .. very cool shot of this nice subject .
I bet not easy to get , well done n.
I do like the pose and the overall presentation .

A bit more DOF would have been nice ... but no big deal

    TFS Andreas
