I am guessing this is a cropped image possibly because the background is too busy?
I like the image but feel the subject is far too large in the frame.

Wow, the owl is sure showing its presence. Some good detail on the Owl. I agree that the subject looks too large in the frame. But others would like an image like this. The face on the bird looks good. If the IQ holds I would go for a tighter crop, showing the head, and a small part of the body. IMO it gives a better BG as well.

Thanks for the replies - yes it is cropped a bit, but you can get very close to the saw whets, and this owl actually was very calm, and around him is more branch stuff so didn't want to have it become distracting.

Super shot of a species I have never heard of ....
For me it as some issues , that could be addressed if one like to do so .
WB or color grading is off to me , yellow cast , colors look " dirty " and no separation between the potential colors .
The foliage should be green ... IMHO as an example . My suggestion would be ... get things neutral in the color front and you will have a better image , just my 2cents .
Very tight framing and the tonal appearance is a bit plastic or cartoony .... resulting from heavy noise removal ( just guessing ) .
I might sound harsh .... but it is not meant harsh , hope you get my points .

To me, everything seems strange about this one, especially the posture of the bird and the big color cast.
