I was departing this otherwise unsuccessful outing when, from the moving car, I saw this bird and another stalking the picnic area.
I spun around, jumped out, and used the last moments of sunshine to capture this headshot; a full-body wasn't possible
given fences, picnic tables, and roads in the background. Bird was so tame is was like cheating!

Brilliant detail Dorian....The red feathers on the head gives a nice colour boost....BG is perfect....as is the HA. Yes, I know the feeling...sometimes a Red Grouse would get too close and it felt like cheating....
Ditto the +ves here. Lovely detail throughout and I do like the orange patch at the base of the neck. Processing looks spot on to me. I sometimes see an opportunity when I'm out driving, but most often it's on a major road/highway and there's nowhere to stop...frustrating to say the least!
Really nice portrait Dorian! Some of those cranes are so used to people especially depending where you were. Anyway you sure took advantage of it. Nice work!
