I was lucky enough to have one =of these guys land right in front of me. I shoot with the 300 as my long lens and just happened to be waiting for wood ducks in a spot i hoped something would someday land...

Detail in eye is pleasing; the background is also nice and refreshing. Some more space to the left might have been effective as to draw attention as to what is occupying the heron's interests.

Great details, BG and portrait. The BG is a bit noisy and I see some banding in the upper left.

I pretty much like it. As for Axel's comments, folks do not believe me when I tell them that I simply do not have a good eye for fine detail, however... Very sharp and a good head-angle are plusses.
