    Default Scale-throated Earthcreeper (Chile)

This is not a thrasher; it is an earthcreeper, a furnarid/ovenbird. The family ranges from Mexico to South America, so North American birders might not be familiar with them.

This shot was captured in the Yeso Valley above Santiago (at around 8,500'). These guys spend most of their time scraping around in the brush, so I was stoked that
this guy popped up on this perch.

I've also added a photo of the Yeso Valley. Not much grows on the slopes given the lack of rain, but snowmelt sustains the valley floor year-round.

1/3200 at f/8 (for depth across the rock), ISO 1000
Cloned out several large poops on the rock. It rarely rains in the Yeso Valley, so poops tend to accumulate on prime perches.

Lovely detail here Dorian. I like the overall composition, pose, sharpness and BG. I can see a version with more off the bottom (to just above the lower oof rock section).

Hi Dorian, this is a killer image. Sweet light, smooth bg, excellent HA and sharpness. I agree with Paul about the lower oof rock section. I can see a version with little more off the bottom and more of the smooth bg at the top.

Hi Dorian another nice one from Chile , good see so much variety here on the forum .
Technically well done and processing looks good .
Personally I am ok with the crop / comp as presented , but can see where the other folks are coming from re loosing some of the foot .
Again personally ... I would give the greens in the BG a cooler hue .

As requested, here's a tighter-cropped version to lose some of the OOF geology at the bottom. Can't get any tighter without cramping the bird! Cheers!
