I had another trip to the Red Kites last week....The weather wasn't the best and was overcast, at least I didn't have to worry about any shadows...I liked the pose this one gave me...ACR, Topaz DN and PS

Nice calling flight pose and the vertical comp perfect for the pose.

    The Kite King returns!!!

Will, the pose and stare are intense. Very captivating! I've loved the others with high key effect and this one rocks also.

A bit more noise/grain here than I recall in the past. Did you apply much noise reduction?

Very nice indeed Will, super pose and those eyes are sharp!
Been toying with the idea of going to Gigrin but thought the plumage may be tatty by now.... but yours looks OK.

    Wow! What a terrific pose.
Love the "in your face, stare down the barrel" look he is giving you.
Tack sharp and the high key BG really makes all the details of the kite pop.

Hi Will ... fantastic shot and very cool banking pose of the kite .
The overcast sky helped a great deal with the contrast .

Interesting to see the " strong grain/ noise " at Iso 2000 with the MK II ????
Was the shot underexposed that you were forced to lift it ??

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated..

Brian, Andreas....Your right the shot was under exposed, that's where the noise crept in...ISO 3200 would have been better...

Jon...Most of the Kites were in good nick, although a few were a wee bit tatty..

Hi Will, love the pose, but the aggressive lifting has really hurt the image with the grain coming through. Personally I think you may have lighten things too much and everything as an even tone across the board so you have no real depth to the look of the image. I would certainly revisit the file, be more light handed with the lifting, and use some Clarity, Dehaze (lightly), with a tonal Curve you already have to pop a little more depth back in, NR whilst still in the RAW - key, any application after is simply wrong, then an additional Curves Adj in PS adds some punch.

Was this in Fife again, as I will be passing through Milnathort.
