Thanks Paul. That app had been around for a bit, and yes it is useful for most ID's. For similar-looking species, or not-so-ideal photos provided, more scrutiny is needed, but it does point in the right direction. Neat stuff.

Merlin is indeed useful, but I'd be careful in trusting it 100%. It's great for most species, but with some of the similar ones, and depending on photo quality submitted, it can only be "ballpark" at times. In that case, a combination of Merlin app and a field guide would be best. I have it on my phone and like it a lot.
