Hi folks ... not often seen and posted .
Not knowing why ... might be the case that there is a special time when to see the Gemsbok having their youngsters . Been many times to Southern Africa .... always special to see them , even more when being quite close .
Image captured in 2014 in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

Image is a wee bit tight , already added a bit of canvas .

    Canon EOS 1D MK IV
    EF 500 IS L
    Window bracket with Gimbal

    F 7,1 ; Iso 640 ; 1/1000 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2021 , added canvas

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting

    Cheers Andreas

Details in the calf look good, the canvas doesn't look obviously stretched to me. (I sometimes find that expanding incrementally as oppose to once sometimes helps).
My only suggestion would be to darken the base a little bit, I think it would enhance presentation.

Thanks Jon .... much appreciated !!!

After some days , I think I should have gone slightly lower on contrast and tone in the whole tonal range .
Regarding your suggestion I do not see any benefit , but you can create an RP for illustration ... as I have tried and thought it does not really help .

Thanks Jon .... but this is not the FG , you darkened the whole light tones !!
And with this you took away the harshness of the Kalahari light .
Always tricky to get it right ...

Yes I did, i.e the foreground and the lighter tones too, incrementally that is, I think it was the harsh light that was bothering me I think.

Ok ok ... I wanted to keep the harshness , as it reflected the scene well . But your RP isn't too bad , just the colors went too intense ....
    But just different taste ....

    Hello Andreas,

    Whew, Kalahari 2014. Brings memories

Cute little Gemsbokkie looking straight into your lens, love the eye contact and 'weary' look. Composition looks good, adding some canvas on the LHS indeed helped. The harsh light is characteristic of the KTP and so is the 'liquid air' in the background.
Well exposed and colours are spot on, sharpness looks good. Lovely image.

FYI, the Kalahari had lots of rain recently and I am told vegetation is abundant. Friends of mine who just returned from a camping trip sent me an image of two giraffe: all you can see is necks and heads, the rest is buried in tall grass. My friends heard lions roaring but could not see them No animals at waterholes either, water is so abundant What magic place, it's never the same, always full of surprises!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas, neat looking Gemsbok. I guess adding canvas worked well because I cannot tell where you did it. Exposure, detail and background all look good to me. Thank you for sharing.

Lovely looking calf with nice pose and stare at the camera. You handled the light well and the PP work is spot on.
