    Default Bobolink

Captured about 10 days ago, shortly before sunset, at one of our favorite local preserves. Word of the confluence of the pretty Bobolinks with the sunflowers spread around the photog community, so there were quite a few of us there on several recent evenings before the numbers of birds and flowers started to diminish.

A sharp, luscious bird in sweet light. Though the light is from our right the perfect head turn makes this one a winner. Do you know if it is a juvie?

Thanks Artie. I don't know. I've assumed this was an adult male in non-breeding plumage because of the more distinct streaking on the back compared with some other images from those few days. But some of my sources such as Crossley use the term "fem/non-br/1st w", suggesting that there isn't a lot of distinction this time of year.

Bird looks great, perch a bit much, but light is very nice...

Looks just like one of the flowers and I love the framing, light and BG. TFS

Bill, I like the composition. Where the floral arrangement (that sounds like funeral talk, sorry) is a bit busy giving it some room on the sides was wise IMO. Love the room on left as well.

Despite the light angle, the sweet warm light helped a bunch

Any idea where the focal point was here? Looks sharper near the rump than the head, but just sharp enough to work for me.

    Very pretty overall.

    Very pretty frame.
Love the yellow color palette and the perch.
I agree the tail/rump looks a bit sharper than the head so would sharpen the head a little bit more.
    Light is killer!

Like this capture, Bill. We've been having some great late afternoon light at this location, and you sure captured it. Like the pose, and that great background.

Beautiful Colors, Light and Head Turn.

I think you can sharpen head a bit more.

    Well done..

Thank you all. I have no idea where the focal point was. According to View NX-i it was out in left field somewhere, but I've never trusted that info. Anyway, you're right that the head looks a tad softer than the body. Here's a repost with a little more sharpening of the head.

Huge fan of this frame, Bill! The plant, lighting, BG, and perch work beautifully together. Side lighting doesn't often work, but the head angle here is perfect; all attention goes straight to the face. I love the crop to inculde the entire clump of foliage. One of m favorite frames from your you!

Very nice. The light pose and the perch of course are all spot on.
