He is handsome! Boy I wish I could just nip out and come back with shots like this. I get the impression you have a wonderful wilderness on your doorstep John. Lovely image, I like the composition, focus and DOF looks fine.
In UK Fallow deer and Red deer are usually available in parks , roe deer are widespread in the "wild" but getting a shot of one is quite a different matter, I'd be over the moon to come back with Roe deer shots like your White tails.
Going for a better WB John, (ie going cooler on the Temp & adding some Green on the Tint) delivers a 'better' separation between subject & BKG. A nice portrait and setting, faming works and going for f/8 rather than your preferred f/4 gives a good DoF. Reducing some of the contrast opens up the detail, albeit it might be a tad over sharp with a sharpening halo running down the nose. Removing the white 'blobs' removes those distracting elements.
