love the interaction, good exposure, great to get both reasonably in focus, was it a big crop, some details could be better but it would tough in this light any way

Cool shot Dan...great interaction between the birds, and I like the BG. Would the birds have been sharper without the TC despite the fact they'd be smaller in the frame?
Thanks for the comments.
Yes it is not sharp.
Paul, the 500pf w/ 1.4 can make really great tack sharp images , I have dozens of sharp
frames from yesterday, this would not have been sharp wide open, I just did not grab
them, this was a very fast scene with the 2 terns flying about each other.
I liked it anyway, I will post better sharp ones with the combo.

I found AF at 700mm with the 500 PF (and the D850) too slow to acquire. I love this frame and wish only that there was one inch between the bill of the far bird and the right wing of the near bird.

Thanks Artie,
The 500pf with the 1.4 works well with decent light.
It took some practice but I have about the same good keeper rate with
the extender as I do without it.
700mm with a crop sensor is a lot, about like a 600 w/ a 2x on a full frame.
I like f8 flight images.
Here is one of dozens I got yesterday at 700mm.
It has to be the cheapest good 700mm combo by a mile.

Renewed faith in the D500/500mmPF...thanks Dan!
Looks like an almost mid air collison.
